A Stronger NHS
A fully funded, effective NHS
The Green Party believe that preventing illness is essential for a strong health service. To this end the green believe in:
- Tackling the obesity problem by building bike routes, making streets safer and encouraging all children to walk to school (with schools being more local under a Green government)
- We will cut pollution thus reducing childhood asthma
- We will keep local services well equipped and open so that people can see a doctor early with any health concern that they have
The Green party shall also strengthen our National Health Service to ensure it provides a strong and fair service for years to come. It's unfair that quality of care suffers when hospitals and surgeries are treated like profit-driven businesses rather than public services. It's unfair that taxpayers fork out over £1bn every year on NHS private finance schemes.
To improve our NHS the Green Party and Matthew Butcher will fight to:
- Reverse the sale of NHS services to private companies. This will ensure cleaner hospitals and fewer deaths in hospital from superbugs (like those seen at The QMC).
- Fully fund and support mental health care, especially at a local level.
- Fight to restore free dental care to the whole population through inputting £1.8bn into dentistry.
- All women to be entitled to support from a single midwife throughout each pregnancy.
- Give local people a much greater say in how their hospitals are run
- Have single sex wards at The QMC
