Fair is worth fighting for

Matthew believes that politics has to change. If elected Matthew will be a strong, independent voice who will fight for a happier, healthier, more equal and more sustainable Nottingham South. All three of the traditional parties have been given a chance to do things right but have failed, the time for change is now.

About Matthew Butcher

Matthew was born and educated in London. He went on to study a BA in Geography at the University of Nottingham.

During his time at Nottingham, Matthew held an executive position on the Students’ Union where he worked to improve the environmental and ethical credentials of the University as well as representing students on issues such as top up fees. He has also worked in the local community and continues to be an active board member of the Crocus Community Café in Lenton, responsible for community engagement. In this role Matthew has worked hard to bridge the gaps between local people and students, encouraging them to eat, volunteer and socialise alongside each other. He has also spent time helping teachers in a local school as well as lending his services to conservation work in local parks and woodland areas.

Matthew has lived in the Nottingham South constituency for 3 years and has campaigned hard to strengthen the role local shops and business play in the everyday lives of constituents. He has extensive experience campaigning on environmental issues on a local, national and even international level. Matthew joined the Green party in 2006 and has been an active member attending national conferences and working in the press office. He has also campaigned for the Greens in numerous elections particularly in Norwich South. At University, Matthew held the position of President of the Young Greens Society.
